Week 16 review and what it portends for January

December 30th, 2009

Reviewing last week from a fantasy standpoint, it was a great week for many of the highest scoring players and a few big surprises. The big surprises included Peyton being benched so early and Cutler being oh so hot. No doubt that Cutler played his best game of the season against a good team.

The Vikes are a team that will have playoff problems if they don’t improve their special teams and deep pass defense. They might need 45 points to win in the first week of the playoffs. Of course, they won’t be playing my Bears again, so there is hope.

CJ continues to amaze and is having an incredible season for a running back with a mediocre or worse QB. The guy will be a fantasy all star this year.

Other big scores included Andre Johnson, who is just plain good. Ryan was back and so was Roddy White. It is a shame that the Falcons had (have) so many key injuries this year. When they are all healthy they are a fantasy goodie factory.

Brees continues to put up numbers, but the Saints seem to be slowing down. I don’t think that they are doing it on purpose, so they along with the Vikes could be one and out in January.

Houston did its one half wonder again last week, but still put up big numbers for Schaub and the previously mentioned AJ. If somehow they make the playoffs, they better hope for a 30 minute clock or they will be gone in 60. I just don’t get it, how they can continue to do this 1/2 game bit week in and week out?

This week the Packers, who were written off by many earlier in the season (FSO’s bloggers included) play the Cardinals. Both coaches are being sly as to what happens this weekend, as they could open the playoffs against one another. That game will be a fantasy feast and the winner could go a long way.

Finally, I must once again mention J. Cutler and my mighty Bears. They did not quit and to their credit and my amazement, they survived the Vikes onslaught; missed a field goal, made a great defensive stand, including a steal of the ball from AP, and then threw to ball into the end zone to one of their own players. Great job guys!!!!

Have fun this week, win your league and celebrate another fantasy season full of good surprises, big disappointments and as always a lot of fun.

Go Bears!!!!

Week 17….who to play?

December 30th, 2009

Last week FSO’s final NFL team tasted defeat. A good score, but beat by a hotter team. So much for super bowl glory!!!!

What do you do this week in picking players? Who will rest, who will play the whole game? Last week, the Colts pulled their players and poof went the streak. This week it looks like there are some big games and those are the players who will stay in for the duration.

The Cowboys are going to need big games from their receivers along with Romo. McNabb and Desean look like great plays for the Eagles. These two QBs are expected to be near the top of the fantasy charts. Another game to watch is the Steelers and Dolphins game.  Big Ben and Henne have a chance for great scores as does Mendenhall and Ricky.

Other who should have good games include Farve and AP of the Vikes; they need to show that they can win. The Saints have the same need, so Brees should do well. CJ and Schaub will get good scores as they play out the string.

For those in the 2nd championship week for ESPN, good luck. The points and other similar leagues can still be won if you are close. The points are available, but picking the players will be a little tougher than usual.

Good luck and I hope that it was (is) a successful fantasy season.

5 Hot games and a Cold one

December 23rd, 2009

This week there are many fantasy implications in the leagues 5 hottest games and one very cold one.
Game1: The Chargers versus the Titans. Great running in CJ and QBing in Rivers. The real question is what about the reverse ones, namely LT and Young. Both of these guys could put up mucho fantasy points and maybe a good marginal play. LT still scores TDs and Vince Young is overall a hot QB. Having all four of these guys should assure you of a big day. That is the answer to whom to play, the Question is how do you get them now? That is up to you.
Game2: Houston versus Miami. Good plays are Schaub and the Big A from the Texans. Henne and Rickey will also have big games. Defenses should be left on the sidelines in this case.
Hot one 3: Ravens at the Steelers. Big Ben and Rice should do OK, the question is Flacco and Mendenhall. I think in this case I would pass if I had other opportunies. Big game in real life and in Fantasy championship matches.
Game 4: Denver at the red hot Eagles. The Eagles are soaring, pun intended, and the Broncos just look afraid to take a chance to win. Blitz Denver Blitz. McNabb should do well, as will D. Jackson. The question for Denver will be who will come to the forefront to make a big play. My guess would be Marshall and these are my recommmended players if you can use them.
Hot game #5: The Colts at home to the Jets. The great one versus the defensive genius. Remember “defense wins championships,” which is why the Colts are 14 and 0 and the Jets are 7 and 7. Did I mess up somewhere? Play Peyton, what a dumb comment, and Mr. Wayne. Others are at your risk.
The Cold 1: The Vikings at the Bears on Monday night in the outdoors in Chicago. This will be a real cool game, once again, pun intended. AP gets back in stride, but Farve gets hammered. The Bears are a team of almost professional players, but they are tough and they don’t like Bret. Play AP and the Vikings trainor. My Bears may not win, they might, but it will be a hard hitter in below freezing temps.
For those playing in championship games this week, I wish all but one of you good luck!!!!
Merry Christmas and go Bears!!!!

7 Wins and 7 Losses

December 23rd, 2009

Who would of guessed that with an even record at this point you had a decent chance to make the playoffs? 9 and 7 will get some teams into the final six in each league.
So who do you like? Many had written the Cowboys off, but last week they beat the great Saints. It was really important for them to win, but the way they did it was very encouraging for Dallas fans. I think that they are going to make it into the playoffs. Others making positive statements include the Giants, Eagles, Steelers and the Ravens. Many others still have a chance and this week they could go and take that big positive step. Teams like Denver just need to win, by playing to win and not trying not to lose. The prevent defense or it modifications give too many teams the chance to beat you at the ending gun. Just ask the Packers or the Broncos.
This week many of the fantasy leagues crown their champions. FSO has one team left playing for the title and two in the consolation rounds. Last week Big Ben knocked FSO out of one potential NFL championship. We had the  highest score for the week in both ESPN rounds. Too bad we didn’t start three weeks earlier.
This week we will win the the NFL fantasy league championship and then the drawing for the Super Bowl.
Good luck this week

The year of the Quarterback

December 17th, 2009

This year in almost every league, the QBs are dominating the scoring. In many cases they take 9 out 10 of the top ten positions. Chris Johnson is the lone exception. Ray Rice, a great fantasy bargain, is in second place among the RBs.
Without a top QB, it is difficult to win championships. Next year, at draft time, it will be interesting to see who is the top pick. This year, the consensus was AP, but he certainly has not been #1 in most leagues. Still a very good year, but a pick of Brees, Rodgers, Peyton or Rivers etc. would have been much better. Still three weeks to go in the NFL regular season, but only two for those in fantasy playoffs. A fun time of the year and now the bench guys are super important as injuries and the schedule loom bigger and bigger.
Reviewing my draft picks, I missed on Forte and Slaton, but did very well with Andre Johnson and Fitz in the WR categories. Kickers were Akers or G—-ski, both big time performers. TE were either Clark of the Colts, a bravo or Carlson of the Seahawks, an oh no.
Defenses were mediocre with the Bears and Ravens, but the Jets and Broncos were good picks. My QBs included Rivers, big Ben, Cutler and Flacco. Not bad, but injuries (including brain injuries to Cutler, who saw hallucinations of Bear receivers that were really players on the defensive team) cut down their value. However, with some adjustments both NFL fantasy teams of FSO are in the hunt.
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I have season tickets for the Chargers. If they make to the Super Bowl, I have a chance for the big time tickets. Let’s hope it happens so that this lowly paid Blogger can taste the high-life.
If you are in a point or rotisserie ( how can you spell that without a y) league, there still is time for a fast finish. Week 17 is always a wierdo! If you are in head to head playoffs, good luck this weekend.

Fantasy playoffs are underway!!!

December 16th, 2009

This week two FSO teams take the fantasy field in the first week of the NFL fantasy shootouts. Both teams are ready to rumble. Last week in fantasy playoffs we were 2-2. One loss was a killer, as we got narrowly beaten by the combo of Desean Jackson,Nikes and Eli. Credit to the winner, as he played all of them. We had the second highest score of the week, but ended up a loser. Kind of like my Bears….almost but no cigar.
I guaranteed a Bears victory last week and would have won except the Packers scored more points. Imagine, to lose on a technicality.
This week starts the who rests? My guess is that both the Colts and Saints play their key guys. Therefore, look for continued victories by these teams, but both seem to be getting a little sloppy lately. If they both lose, then the fix was in…
Speaking of the Saints, as they play the Cowboys without Ware, can they put up 40 against the Dallas squad? Can Romo toss four touchdown passes and still lose by 14? Will Bourbon Street pause on a Saturday night to watch the game? The answers are yes, yes and no.
Predictions for the week for meanful games that will be close. Winners include the Packers, Jets, Eagles, Dolphins and Chargers.
Good luck and go Bears!!!!

What a way to stay undefeated!!!!!

December 9th, 2009

All the credit in the world goes to Saints who used two of my favorite plays. The invisible field goal off line steerer, also known as wide right, and the let’s have our pass intercepted and then steal it back and run for a TD play. What can you say, those plays are pure genius!!! I did predict that one of the elite would fall and the Vikes did. Morale of this story is that Sweetness knows all, well maybe almost all.

This week the Steelers, the Ravens, and Titans have favorable matchups from a fantasy and real world standpoints. Good week for some big points.

The Chargers invasion of Texas could show if the Cowboys are for real this year. The Chargers are hot and the Cowboys have it going also, but this is a bigger test for Romo and Company. The total score could be in the 55+ range, many fantasy opportunities here, the question is WHO?

The Bears, as predicted, won again. What a team….maybe it should be stated “what is with this team?” This week they play the Pack in one of the greatest football rivalries. Both teams and the crowd will be up for this game. No soft hits this Sunday in Chitown, my home town. The Packers are a heavy favorite, but I am guaranteeing a Bears victory. Get you bets in now before the line goes down!!!!

Good luck as we near the fantasy playoffs and go Bears, beat those evil Packers!

What’s happened to the Steelers, Patriots and Texans?

December 9th, 2009

Last week this guru pointed out that the Steelers had lost to two very weak teams and then they proceeded to lose to the Raiders. The Patriot’s lost when they could not hold the lead again and because Bellycheck passed up a field goal for another 4th down unsuccessful play. I think that Bill’s magic wand needs to be recharged. The Texans lost the first half so badly, that when they won the second half, they still lost. Wow! Kudos to the victorious Raiders, Dolphins and Jags. They didn’t quit and won. Good for them.

This week the guru predicts victories for the Pats, the Steelers and even the Texans, though it will be close for them. Other winners will include the Cardinals, the Vikes and the Dolphins….all close games.

Two of FSO’s  live drafted NFL teams have cinched the playoffs starting in week 14. The guru is thinking of resting his stars this week to avoid injuries. The guru has it together and doesn’t need to take his meds anymore!!!!

Good luck in this week prior to playoffs. I hope that you used Data Sense in August and if so you are probably in the hunt.

Week 13…..The hex maybe upon us

December 4th, 2009

Will the Colts, Vikings and Saints continue to roll? Logic says yes, but the HEX of week 13 says no. So who will fall….the Colts, Vikings and Saints in that order. If  Warner doesn’t play, then the Saints pass up the Vikes. I really doubt that all of the super elite can win in week 13, not that I am superstitious or anything like that.

The Bucs at the Panthers and the Rams at my mighty Bears are two of the under rated games this week. They have 10 wins and 34 losses between the four of them. They have 66 interceptions against them and only 42 take aways in the air. The only thing that stands between Dellhome and a new interception record is Jake Cutler and the finger that D’s coach broke on his hand. Why would anyone start a QB named Jake? They have 39 interceptions against them in only 24 games. Brady, Peyton, Drew, Farve and Rodgers have 36 in 60 games. Wonder why the Bears and Panthers are going to be home this January?

Other deep thoughts this week revolve around the Texans and Jaguars. Can the Texans play 60 minutes at a high enough level to keep their dim playoff hopes alive? They are the best 30 minute team in football. The Jags are generally good if the game is close. However, losing 41-0 to the Seahawks and 20-3 to the 49er’s make you wonder how they won 6 games this season. I guess the schedule and the 2 two last name guys help. The guys with two last names have scored 114 out of 202 points for the Jags this year. Just think, 41 or more one last name guys have averaged less than 3 points a game. If you were a GM for the Jags who would you look for in this years draft, Mr. Single name or Mr. Hyphenated? Maybe they could find someone with three last names and have a super, super, super star!!!!

Other intesting facts include, no wins on the road for the Lions, since the Cubs won a pennant. Good news for the Bengals’ fans. The 49er’s are the only team with a losing record to out score their opponents. Finally, only four teams have scored between 300 and 345 points this year; the Colts, Chargers, Patriots and Vikings. The Saints have scored 407 points and have a point differential of plus 186!!! My Bears are only minus 45, not too bad all things considered.

Good luck this weekend and GO Bears!!!!

Maybe Bellycheck wasn’t so wrong

December 4th, 2009

When Big Bad Bill had the Patriots go for it against the Colts, it was considered a bad move. After watching the Pat’s against the Saints, it appeared that they should never punt against a team with a good offense. What happened to the magnificent schemes that were designed to be fool proof? I think it is called a deterioration of personnel or “what happened to the good players.” Wow! This team does not look of championship caliber compared to the Saints or Vikings. They were close to the Colts, but have gone downhill in the last few weeks.

The Super Bowl champs of last year really need the long hair one and Big Ben to get back to become contenders. The Steelers have lost to the Bears and the Chiefs this year and that does not bode well. They are in danger of the missing the playoffs with three tough games to finish the season after two patsies in the next two weeks. But what would you call the Chiefs and the Bears?

It is interesting that Hines Ward played in the losses…..too bad he isn’t as good as his mouth. Wide receivers seem to have big mouths and selfish brains. Edwards, T.O. and Ward to name a few and Moss and Ochocinco just a few games from jerkitis. Too much me and not enough team for these guys. It will be interesting to see what happens this week with Ward and Big Ben. Hopefully for the Steeler fans, nothing. The Raider fans probably have no idea of what I am writing about and that is for the 20% that can read.

Well time for big picks to set you up for the weekend. I will take the Jets for sure and everything else is too close to call.
Good luck!!!
